Mark your calendars!

** Joe Carrillo, New Mexico State Forestry Division - Fire Prevention

We are pleased to have Mr. Joe Carrillo speak at our annual meeting on fire prevention. This talk will be very timely, as media has informed us that the Southwest has suffered from dry weather conditions. This summer can present a serious risk to cabin owners, especially if folks don’t take some measures to protect their property. We look forward to Mr. Carrillo’s talk which will be of importance to all of us.

** North Central Solid Waste Authority to Provide Dumpsters for Memorial Day Weekend

The North Central Solid Waste Authority has authorized the use of two roll-off containers to be used for pine needles and small brush for the Brazos Cliff residences. Please ensure that only pine needles and small brush are placed in the container. The containers will be located across from the Cliffview Restaurant at 700 SR 512, just east of the regular dumpster.

**North Central Solid Waste Authority Residential Solid Waste Disposal Permit for 2011

Starting this year residents in the Brazos need to pick up their Disposal Permit (punch card) in Espanola at 1101 Industrial Park Road, Suite C, unless a form is processed to authorize US mail. This office is located just west of the intersection of Industrial Park Road and Hwy 84/285, on the north end of Espanola. This intersection is identified with two gas stations (Conoco on the East and 66 on the West) across from each other, on the NE and NW corners. The intersection is also marked by the Del Norte Credit Union on the SW corner . It is only short drive up the hill to the NC Solid Waste Authority office which is on the right side. We also understand that you can apply to get punch cards via US mail but need to call the Espanola Office for a form to be returned and processed. Their telephone and fax numbers are 505-747-8459 and 505-747-8464, respectively.

** Ballot Bios

  1. Dennis Fahs - We have been coming to the Chama area since the 1980's, first staying at Corkins lodge and later camping in various areas around Chama. We really enjoy the outdoors and feel that we found a place that we have been looking for in the upper Brazos. I like to stream fish and Teri likes the quiet with no phones. We look forward to our trips up to the Brazos and try to make it a couple of times each month. When we retire, we plan to spend most of our time up at our cabin.
  2. Jeff Harris - Jeff, a registered professional engineer, is retired from PNM where he represented the electric business unit with rating agencies, banking institutions and Investment Bankers and state and federal regulatory bodies and political entities. Jeff held executive positions as President of New Vistas Investments Corporation, a real estate development and management company, President of Homes by New Vistas, a custom home builder in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was a founder and principle of the Bright Beginnings Child Development Centers, a 15 center childcare chain in New Mexico. He is currently an active angel investor and practicing consultant in local entrepreneurial start-up companies. Besides the UBPOA, he has served on the board of several companies and organizations, including iGo Inc., Beamz Interactive, Inc., Advent Solar, OneEnergy Inc and the Border Trade Alliance.
  3. Carol Schultz - My Husband and I bought in the Brazos in 1980 and were part time until 11 years ago. I have been president of the home owners association. I am currently on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society. I started Brazos Mountain Real Estate LLC in 2000 and have been in Business ever since.
